Six young children, including a two-month-old baby, were rescued from a storage unit where they were locked up. Authorities in Milwaukee have apprehended a 26-year-old woman and a 33-year-old man on charges of child abuse and neglect after the children were found in a StorSafe unit in the northern part of the city.
Upon entering the unit, law enforcement discovered six children, aged two, three, five, seven, and nine, along with the infant. Fortunately, the children did not suffer any physical harm during their confinement. Initially, officials believed there were only two children inside the storage container, as per dispatch audio obtained by ABC News.
Fire crews were called in to assist the police in accessing the locked container. Thankfully, no injuries occurred during the operation. Witnesses in the area provided conflicting reports, with one resident claiming to have observed a family with children frequenting the unit, while another stated they had never seen children there.
Local residents expressed shock and dismay at the situation, with one individual highlighting the lack of support for the children. The community is grappling with the incident, with concerns raised about the treatment of children and the need for better safeguards. The Milwaukee County District Attorney’s Office is currently reviewing the case for potential charges.
