“Rising Prices: Christmas Advent Calendars Spark Consumer Concern”

Must Read

Even though Halloween is still approaching, supermarkets are already stocking up on Christmas items, including advent calendars.

Advent calendars have long been a popular festive tradition, with people spending a few pounds to mark the countdown to Christmas and enjoy a daily treat in December. However, the availability of advent calendars is decreasing, with prices rising for chocolate versions and a variety of alternative gift-filled options, ranging from beauty products to alcohol, some costing hundreds of pounds.

While luxury advent calendars may understandably come with a higher price tag, the steep costs of some chocolate advent calendars in supermarkets are surprising to many shoppers.

For instance, a 90g Cadbury Dairy Milk advent calendar at Sainsbury’s is priced at £2.50, but the Ferrero Rocher advent calendar (258g) is a significant £17.50 this year.

Although Ferrero Rocher is a popular choice for many during the festive period, some consumers question whether it justifies the high cost compared to other brands.

Other notable prices include the Lindt Selection advent calendar (289g) at £16, the Tedddy AR advent calendar (250g) at £15, the NOMO Ultimate Choc advent calendar (320g) at £15, and the Tony’s Chocoloney Countdown calendar (216g) at £12.

Furthermore, the Cadbury Heroes advent calendar (230g) is priced at £7.50, while the Kinder Bueno advent calendar (181g) costs £9 this year. Prices can vary depending on the retailer, with Selfridges selling the Ferrero Rocher advent calendar for £24.99, while it is priced at £17.50 in Sainsbury’s and Ocado.

Boots offers a different Ferrero Collection Chocolate Advent Calendar (259g) for £18, while Tesco sells the same product for £15.

Once an affordable and charming Christmas tradition, advent calendars now add to the financial burden of the holiday season, particularly impacting parents who often purchase multiple calendars for their children.

This shift in pricing is challenging for many consumers, especially those with children who have a preference for higher-priced calendars. The trend raises concerns about the overall cost of the festive season.

Representatives from Sainsbury’s, Ferrero Group, and Selfridges have been approached for comments regarding the pricing of advent calendars.
