Two men and a woman were detained in Essex under suspicion of espionage for Russia, according to the Metropolitan Police. The individuals, a 41-year-old man, a 46-year-old man, and a 35-year-old woman, were apprehended at different locations in Grays for allegedly aiding a foreign intelligence service. They were subsequently taken to a London police station. Commander Dominic Murphy of the Counter Terrorism Command mentioned that there is a growing trend of “proxies” being recruited by foreign intelligence agencies in the UK. He also cited a recent case involving two British men recruited by the Wagner Group, associated with the Russian government, for committing arson at a warehouse linked to Ukraine. Although unrelated to the current arrests, Murphy warned against engaging in criminal activities on behalf of foreign states within the UK, emphasizing the severe legal repercussions. The trio has been released on bail pending further investigation. The nationalities of those detained have not been disclosed by Scotland Yard.
