Oleksandr Usyk has provided a significant boost to Tyson Fury by announcing his intention to continue boxing for the next two years. Earlier this year, the 38-year-old outlined his retirement plan, stating he had two more fights left before stepping away from the sport. In a remarkable victory back in July, Usyk defeated Daniel Dubois in front of a massive crowd at Wembley Stadium to secure his second undisputed heavyweight championship.
Following his recent triumph, Usyk is taking a break for the remainder of the year to spend quality time with his family. He plans to make a comeback to the ring in 2026. Despite being directed to defend his WBO title against Joseph Parker post his win over Dubois, the fight has been postponed due to medical reasons, with Usyk’s team successfully securing a 90-day extension.
In an interview with UNN, the Ukrainian heavyweight champion shared his return to training and his determination to win in the upcoming year. Usyk, who will turn 39 in January, expressed his revised retirement goal of boxing until the age of 41 before establishing a sports academy for training purposes.
Fury, who had previously announced his retirement following losses to Usyk, declared his comeback next year in July. His promoter, Frank Warren, hinted at Fury’s imminent return to the ring, emphasizing his focus on a potential third bout with Usyk rather than a matchup with Anthony Joshua.
Kieron Conway is scheduled to face George Liddard on October 17 at York Hall, Bethnal Green. The main event is set to start at 10pm UK time, with live coverage available on DAZN. Subscribers can access the fight through the DAZN website or app with various subscription options.
The developments in Usyk’s boxing career have stirred excitement among fans and added anticipation to the upcoming matchups in the heavyweight division.
