The individual suspected of fatally shooting Charlie Kirk purportedly admitted his involvement to acquaintances before surrendering to authorities.
Police are gearing up to press charges of murder against Tyler Robinson, a 22-year-old, for the slaying of conservative figure and Donald Trump supporter Kirk. Kirk was shot and killed by a lone gunshot during a rally at Utah Valley University last Wednesday.
After a 33-hour manhunt, Robinson turned himself in to law enforcement following his father’s recognition of him in CCTV footage released during the search. Details have surfaced about Robinson’s alleged communication with friends in a Discord group following the incident.
In a message reportedly sent by Robinson, he stated, “Hey everyone, I have unfortunate news to share. I was present at UVU yesterday. I express regret for my actions.
“I am surrendering through a sheriff acquaintance shortly. Thank you for the good memories and laughter; you have all been wonderful. I appreciate everything.”
The message was sent on Thursday night, approximately two hours before his arrest, and a screenshot of the conversation, circulated to around 30 individuals, has been obtained.
Meanwhile, DNA found on a towel wrapped around a rifle near the scene where Kirk was murdered matched that of Robinson, according to FBI Director Kash Patel.
Patel informed that DNA evidence has linked Robinson to a screwdriver recovered from the rooftop where the fatal shot was discharged, as stated on the Fox News program “Fox & Friends.”
Authorities revealed that Robinson harbored animosity towards Kirk and adhered to a “leftist ideology” that had intensified in recent times. Utah Governor Spencer Cox mentioned that Robinson’s family and friends indicated he spent considerable time exploring the “darker corners of the internet.”
Patel mentioned that Robinson had written a note before the shooting expressing his intent to target Kirk and execute his plan. While the contents of the note were recovered after being destroyed, Patel refrained from disclosing further specifics.
Governor Cox mentioned that Robinson’s partner identified as transgender, but it remains uncertain whether the suspect singled out Kirk due to his anti-transgender beliefs. Utah’s department of public safety chief stated that Robinson’s partner has been cooperative.
“There was a romantic relationship involved. We are investigating the potential involvement of that individual,” mentioned commissioner Beau Mason. “We believe that Tyler Robinson acted alone during the shooting.”</p
