UK Faces Weekend Chill with Snow Threat

Must Read

Brits are bracing for a drop in temperatures this weekend, with a chance of snow in the forecast. Following a warm and dry summer, the weather has turned unsettled in September, and this trend is expected to continue. Stormy conditions over the weekend brought heavy rain and strong winds, reaching speeds of up to 74mph in the Isle of Wight. The upcoming days are predicted to bring more blustery weather as low-pressure systems move in from the Atlantic, although the wind speeds are not anticipated to be as intense.

Temperatures are set to decrease into the mid-teens for many regions, with a potential rise to 23C in the southeast by Friday. However, significant changes are on the horizon due to the jet stream shifting, leading to more unsettled weather and cooler temperatures, especially in northern areas.

Weather maps from WXCharts indicate snowfall in central Scotland on Sunday morning, while northern England and southern regions are likely to experience rain. Temperatures could plummet to 0C in Scotland on Sunday morning, remaining in single digits throughout the day nationwide.

BBC weather forecaster Louis Lear highlighted the persistence of unsettled conditions due to the jet stream’s position. A potential cut-off low-pressure system could result in continued unsettled weather for central and southern England.

The Met Office’s forecast for September 20 to September 29 suggests colder weather with chilly nights in the upcoming week. Unsettled conditions are expected initially, with wet and windy spells interspersed with brighter, showery periods. Towards the following week, high pressure may bring drier weather to northern regions while low pressure lingers closer to the south. By late September, high pressure is likely to dominate, with temperatures returning to near-average levels.
