Over a decade ago, as an Albanian immigrant in Britain fleeing danger back home, she faced hostility and discrimination. Housed in shared asylum-seeker accommodation in Stockton-on-Tees, Riada and fellow traumatized women endured nightly harassment from hostile groups outside their residence.
The recent riots, occurring nearby a decade later, reignited past fears for Riada and the refugee community. The unrest, following a tragic knife attack in Southport, resulted in violent clashes in Middlesbrough, causing extensive damage and chaos. Despite the turmoil, Middlesbrough residents rallied together to clean up the streets and protect places of worship from potential harm.
One project that stood out amidst the turmoil was The Flower Patch in Middlesbrough, where refugees and locals worked side by side, cultivating flowers and reclaiming abandoned green spaces. Despite facing adversity, individuals like Riada found solace and community in the gardens, symbolizing resilience and unity.

Riada, once a lawyer in her home country, now assists newcomers in settling into their new lives in the UK.
