Sky’s dominance in the streaming hardware market is facing new competition as Freely and Manhattan introduce innovative devices. Freely, a platform launched in 2024 by the creators of Freeview, now offers free access to a variety of content through broadband streaming. Initially requiring a new TV with built-in Freely capabilities, the platform recently expanded to include a Pleio puck for existing televisions.
Manhattan, renowned for its Freeview boxes comparable to Sky Q, is entering the streaming market with the Aero 4K TV Streamer. Set to launch in February, this device offers access to live TV channels and a vast library of on-demand content without any monthly subscription fees. Powered by TiVo OS, the Aero not only supports Freely but also provides access to popular streaming apps like Netflix, Disney+, Prime Video, and YouTube, along with TiVo+ offering additional free streaming channels and on-demand content.
The Aero boasts 4K picture quality, voice search capabilities, and a seamless Wi-Fi delivery system, eliminating the need for traditional aerial or satellite dish connections. Alex Arbab-Zadeh, Manhattan’s COO, praised the Aero as an affordable solution to upgrading any TV by providing access to live TV, catch-up services, and various streaming apps through a simple Wi-Fi connection.
The Manhattan Aero 4K TV Streamer with Freely is set to hit the market in February 2026 at a price of £69.99, available at major retailers such as Currys, John Lewis, and Amazon.
