Mercedes F1 Boss Toto Wolff Skips Mexico GP for Wife’s Theatrical Debut

Must Read

Mercedes F1 team principal Toto Wolff decided to switch gears from the Mexico City Grand Prix to attend a performance of his wife Susie’s memoir, Driven, at London’s Lyceum Theatre. This move was a departure from his usual presence at Formula 1 events. Susie captivated an audience of 2,000 with her inspiring journey from the Scottish Highlands to the pinnacle of motorsport.

Prior to this, Wolff had participated in the Autosport Business Exchange in New York. Susie’s racing career began at the age of eight in karting and progressed to Formula Renault in 2001. Despite an ankle injury affecting her only season in Formula 3 with Alan Docking Racing, she then competed in DTM from 2006 to 2012 with Mucke Motorsport and Persson before joining Williams as an F1 development driver.

Susie made history in 2014 at the British Grand Prix as the first woman to compete in a Formula 1 weekend since 1992. After retiring from racing in 2015, she became a brand ambassador for Mercedes and later took on roles as Team Principal for Venturi Racing in Formula E and managing director of the F1 Academy.

While absent from the Mexico City GP, Wolff closely monitored his team’s performance. Mercedes had a challenging race, with Kimi Antonelli finishing sixth ahead of George Russell. Lando Norris claimed victory for McLaren, with Charles Leclerc and Max Verstappen securing the other podium spots.

In the Drivers’ standings, Russell ranks fourth with 258 points, trailing Norris by 99 points, while Antonelli holds seventh place with 97 points. Mercedes currently sits third in the Constructors’ standings with 355 points, just one point behind Ferrari. McLaren leads with 713 points from 13 wins and 30 podium finishes.
