“Pacquiao in Talks for Mayweather Rematch”

Must Read

Manny Pacquiao has confirmed discussions are underway for a potential rematch with boxing legend Floyd Mayweather. Reports suggest that Netflix is spearheading the negotiations to bring together these two iconic figures of the modern boxing era.

The initial showdown between the two fighters occurred over ten years ago, generating more than £500 million in pay-per-view revenue in the United States. Despite the high expectations, Mayweather emerged victorious with a clear decision, with Pacquiao attributing his performance to a shoulder injury.

Pacquiao, a former eight-weight world champion, surprised the boxing world when he first mentioned a rematch with Mayweather over a year ago. Mayweather responded by claiming that Pacquiao owed him $4 million for prematurely announcing the talks.

Undeterred by past setbacks, Pacquiao has expressed his eagerness for a potential rematch, emphasizing that his active status in boxing makes it a realistic possibility, contingent on Mayweather’s participation.

The Filipino senator stated, “I’ve been motivated since after the fight. After the operation, I was OK to get back in the ring and fight again. Right now, God is good and giving me strength and good health to continue my career as a boxer.”

Pacquiao recently fought Mario Barrios to a draw in July, aiming to secure the WBC welterweight title after a four-year hiatus from the sport. In contrast, Mayweather has only engaged in two official fights against Andre Berto and Conor McGregor, maintaining an undefeated 50-0 record and participating in exhibition matches against opponents like Logan Paul and John Gotti III.

When asked about his top opponents, Pacquiao did not include Mayweather in his selection, instead highlighting Marco Antonio Barrera, Erik Morales, Juan Manuel Marquez, Oscar De La Hoya, Miguel Cotto, and Antonio Margarito. Pacquiao criticized Mayweather’s fighting style, stating, “Floyd Mayweather ran the whole twelve rounds and then won the fight. I feel sorry for the fans because the fight is boring. That’s not what the fans are expecting from us. If I am a fan, of course, I want to see a good fight, a challenging fight, not a fashion show.”
