Virgin Media has announced an upcoming upgrade for select broadband customers, aiming to enhance their home networking experience. The company will be replacing older Hub 3 and Hub 4 routers with the more advanced Hub 5, featuring Wi-Fi 6 technology for faster and more reliable connections.
Eligible customers will receive notification via email in the following weeks and months as the upgrade is gradually implemented throughout 2026. The Hub 5 is equipped with Wi-Fi 6 technology and seven internal antennas to provide improved coverage within households.
Virgin Media will directly contact qualifying customers, eliminating the need for proactive steps until notification is received. Customers can also verify their eligibility by accessing their My Virgin Media account online.
Upgrading to the Hub 5 router can lead to a significant enhancement in broadband performance, offering broader Wi-Fi coverage, enhanced stability, and support for future updates. The router is optimized for faster Gig1 speeds, facilitating quicker downloads and streaming experiences. Gig1 speeds enable users to download a full HD movie in under 40 seconds, surpassing the UK average by over 10 times.
Wi-Fi 6 represents the latest wireless networking technology, delivering faster speeds, increased efficiency, and enhanced performance in high-traffic environments. It can accommodate more connected devices simultaneously, improving performance across both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands. Additionally, Wi-Fi 6 is energy-efficient, making it ideal for modern smart homes with multiple connected devices and high data requirements.
Users seeking even better performance can explore Wi-Fi 7 technology, although Wi-Fi 6 remains suitable for the average consumer.
