A male individual has passed away after sustaining gunshot injuries, while a female is currently receiving medical care following a shooting incident that occurred in a park in the UK.
According to the Metropolitan Police, law enforcement responded promptly to the occurrence at Clissold Park in Stoke Newington, north London, around 7 pm. Emergency medical personnel attended to a man and a woman, both in their forties, on-site before transporting them to a medical facility, where the man was pronounced dead. The condition of the woman remains undisclosed at this time.
In an official statement, the Met Police stated: “Officers were alerted to a shooting at Clissold Park, N16 at 19:06hrs on Wednesday, 17 September.”
“A female in her forties received medical treatment from paramedics of the London Ambulance Service and the London Air Ambulance. She was admitted to the hospital for further care, and updates on her condition are awaited.
“A male in his forties also received medical attention for gunshot wounds. Despite the efforts of medical responders, he was later declared deceased at the hospital. Investigations are ongoing to identify his next of kin.”
Authorities confirmed the recovery of a firearm at the park, with the statement noting: “A firearm believed to be linked to the incident was found and secured at the scene.”
Detective Superintendent Oliver Richter, overseeing policing in Hackney and Tower Hamlets, mentioned that the individuals involved were likely acquainted and that the incident is being treated as an “isolated event.”
He expressed, “We recognize the gravity of this incident for those directly involved, witnesses in the park, and the local community.
“At this early stage of the inquiry, we understand that the man and woman had a prior relationship. Presently, we are handling it as an isolated occurrence, with no broader threat to public safety.
“Officers are diligently working to ascertain the complete circumstances surrounding the incident and are committed to supporting those impacted. A designated crime scene is in place for examination purposes, with an increased police presence.”
