“Update: Two Pedestrians Struck by Police Vehicle”

Greater Manchester Police has provided an update regarding the condition of two pedestrians who were struck by a police vehicle earlier this week. The incident occurred at approximately 9:08 pm on Friday, September 19, resulting in a 57-year-old woman and a 58-year-old man being hospitalized after the collision. The matter has been referred to GMP’s Professional Standards Directorate for investigation.

The latest update from the police indicates that the 57-year-old woman is still receiving treatment in the hospital for serious injuries. The officer who was driving the police vehicle is cooperating with the investigation process.

In a statement released on their website, the police force detailed the events of the collision on Wigan Road in Leigh. The incident took place while the police vehicle was en route to another call. The female pedestrian, aged 57, remains hospitalized with severe injuries, while the male pedestrian, aged 58, has been discharged with minor injuries. The scene has now been cleared.

The officer involved in the collision is actively supporting the investigation, with referrals being made to GMP’s Professional Standards Directorate as per protocol. The Serious Collision Investigation Unit is urging anyone with relevant information, including eyewitnesses or individuals possessing CCTV or dashcam footage, to come forward and assist in the investigation.
