BT has introduced a new means of internet access with its latest Smart Hub 3 Wi-Fi router set to launch in UK households. Apart from enhancing connectivity, this router offers additional security features. It boasts technology that can identify harmful websites, alerting users to potential malware threats. Moreover, it can detect hacking attempts on smart home devices like internet-connected cameras and prevent suspicious activities.
Users can track identified threats using the Hub Threat Protect feature in the MyBT app, enhancing online security and preempting cyber threats. In addition to security, the Smart Hub 3 prioritizes performance by supporting Complete Wi-Fi Plus, which extends signal coverage and eliminates dead zones in weaker areas.
The Smart Hub 3 sports a sleek, minimalist design with a small BT logo at the center, as revealed in online images. Notably, this router supports Wi-Fi 6 rather than the newer Wi-Fi 7 standard seen in some competitor devices, like those from EE. While Wi-Fi 7 offers faster speeds, lower latency, and improved reliability, most current devices do not support it, making Wi-Fi 6 more than sufficient for the majority of households.
BT’s Smart Hub 3 will be accessible to new customers, with potential upgrades available for existing users. Wi-Fi 6 enhances wireless performance compared to Wi-Fi 5 and Wi-Fi 4, while Wi-Fi 7 expands on this with wider channels, reduced latency, and higher speeds, catering to gaming, 8K streaming, and advanced smart home setups. For present users, Wi-Fi 6 remains a solid choice, while Wi-Fi 7 offers a more forward-looking solution.
