“Mother Receives Settlement After Traumatic Workplace Incident”

Must Read

A mother in her twenties, Anna Rachfal, received a significant monetary settlement after a traumatic workplace incident where she lost her scalp and ear. The accident occurred when her ponytail got entangled in a rotating drill she was operating, resulting in severe injuries. Despite immediate distress, the drill’s force swiftly tore off her scalp and right ear, leading Anna to lose consciousness.

Following an investigation by the Health and Safety Executive, P&D Engineering Ltd in Coventry was fined £62,000 for neglecting to install a guard on the drill, a safety measure identified in the company’s own risk assessment but ignored.

Having undergone 14 surgeries, Anna faces permanent injuries, including hearing loss, dizziness, nerve pain, and emotional trauma. Disappointed by the company’s fine, she pursued legal action through personal injury solicitors Osbornes Law. Expressing her distress, Anna highlighted the lasting impact of the incident on her physical and emotional well-being.

Despite admitting fault for failing to ensure employee safety, P&D Engineering Ltd’s insurers settled the case just before a scheduled High Court trial to determine compensation. Anna, residing in Coventry with her husband and two young children, expressed the strain of proving the authenticity of her injuries amid constant monitoring by the defendant’s insurers.

Anna shared her challenging journey of recovery, emphasizing the unwavering support of her family, legal team, and healthcare professionals. She aims to empower others facing similar struggles by advocating for safety in the workplace and resilience in overcoming adversity.

Ben Posford, the head of Osbornes Law’s catastrophic injury team, condemned the company’s negligence and emphasized the importance of enforcing proper health and safety measures in all workplaces. He commended Anna’s courage and determination, ensuring she receives the necessary care and support for her long-term well-being.
