“Study Finds Over Half Suffer Unreliable Wifi Woes”

Must Read

A recent study has revealed that over half of the population encounters unreliable broadband connectivity issues at least twice a month, with a majority of individuals opting not to address the problem. The research conducted by mobile and broadband provider giffgaff highlighted instances where people missed out on significant opportunities such as concert tickets, job prospects, and even the ability to participate in online events like family funerals due to inconsistent wifi signals. In extreme cases, relationships have ended and intimate moments disrupted as a result of persistent broadband failures.

Approximately 53% of respondents reported facing regular wifi problems, with common frustrations including dropped work calls, lost shopping orders, and interruptions while streaming movies or TV shows. To stay connected, many individuals are resorting to unconventional methods, such as leaving their homes to seek better signal reception in places like cafés, friends’ residences, libraries, and supermarket parking lots. Some even confessed to parking outside their ex-partner’s house to utilize their wifi network.

Within households, coping strategies vary from wandering around to find a stronger signal, shouting at the router in frustration, to depleting phone data by tethering. Despite communal complaints in messaging groups like WhatsApp about wifi outages, a significant number of individuals are reluctant to switch providers, citing the perceived inconvenience.

A substantial portion (31%) find the process of changing providers too cumbersome, while a quarter doubt that a different provider would offer a better solution. Consequently, households are collectively losing nearly 50 hours annually attempting to troubleshoot their internet issues.

In response to these challenges, giffgaff has introduced a new full fibre broadband service designed to address these concerns. With flexible plans starting at £34 per month, no installation charges, and symmetrical upload and download speeds, the service aims to provide a reliable and hassle-free solution. Currently available in select regions like the North West, Yorkshire, and the East Midlands, giffgaff plans to expand its coverage to more areas by the end of the year.

Ash Schofield, CEO of giffgaff, emphasized the importance of reliable broadband services in daily life, highlighting the company’s commitment to meeting consumers’ needs through user-driven offerings. Schofield encouraged individuals to consider switching to giffgaff as a straightforward solution to their broadband woes.
