“Grooming Survivor Turned Advocate Fights for Change”

Must Read

Samantha’s harrowing experience began at the age of 12 when she was targeted online by a man masquerading as a teenager. Following an extended period of online communication, the perpetrator, a 34-year-old ex-teacher, sexually abused her in his vehicle. Subsequently, Samantha, feeling traumatized, engaged in heavy drinking with friends and fell into the hands of a group of pedophiles.

Her story mirrors that of numerous young girls who have been victimized by grooming gangs in various locations across the United Kingdom. Despite enduring significant emotional turmoil during her teenage years, Samantha found the strength to advocate for change after meeting her future spouse at 18.

Now 31 years old and a mother of three, Samantha Walker-Roberts, who has chosen to forego her anonymity, is actively collaborating with the government’s investigation into the longstanding grooming gangs issue unveiled in June. Hailing from Oldham, Greater Manchester, Samantha emphasizes the importance of raising awareness about grooming practices to safeguard all children and prevent child sexual exploitation.

Reflecting on her past, Samantha recounts how she was ensnared by former teacher Paul Waites when she was a naïve 12-year-old back in 2006. Despite initial feelings of isolation and vulnerability, Samantha was eventually able to break free from the cycle of abuse and dedicate herself to advocating for victims of grooming and exploitation, shedding light on the dark realities of such crimes.
