150-1 Underdog Stuns in £1M Horse Race

Must Read

Punters were astonished as a 150-1 underdog caused a major upset in a £1 million horse race on Wednesday, delivering one of the most unexpected victories in race history.

The Visit Qatar Sussex Stakes, a prestigious mile race in Europe, witnessed a showdown between Field Of Gold and Rosallion, the winners of the Irish 2,000 Guineas and St James’s Palace Stakes. Juddmonte, the owners of Field Of Gold, introduced Qirat as a pacemaker into the race, priced at 150-1 in the betting market.

Qirat, initially seen as a supporting role, took the lead after Serengeti faltered, maintaining the position till the end. The unexpected win delighted a Ladbrokes bettor who placed a £50 wager on Qirat. Field Of Gold struggled to make an impact, with only Rosallion coming close to challenging the leader.

Richard Kingscote, the victorious jockey, expressed his satisfaction with the win, emphasizing the horse’s affinity for the track. Trainer Ralph Beckett commended Qirat’s performance, highlighting the horse’s specialist skills at Goodwood.

The stewards conducted an inquiry into Qirat’s improved form compared to a previous race at Royal Ascot, with explanations provided by Beckett and Field Of Gold’s trainer John Gosden.

The surprising outcome rewarded a Ladbrokes customer with a significant £7,550 win, showcasing the unpredictability of horse racing. Spokesperson Alex Apati described the victory as one of the most remarkable upsets at Glorious Goodwood.
