Emma Thomson believes that she had the potential to impact American history significantly had she agreed to go on a date with Donald Trump 27 years ago. The acclaimed 66-year-old actress disclosed that the now 79-year-old US President had invited her for dinner during the filming of the 1998 movie, Primary Colours.
During a speech at the Locarno Festival in Switzerland, Emma humorously mentioned feeling like she was being ‘stalked’ by the real estate mogul after he managed to obtain her phone number. She mused about the missed opportunity, saying, “I could have gone on a date with Donald Trump, and then I would have a story to tell. I could have changed the course of American history.”
Recounting the unexpected phone call from Trump, Emma shared that she initially thought it was a prank. Trump had just separated from his second wife, Marla Maples, while Emma had recently finalized her divorce from Kenneth Branagh.

She jested about the situation, suggesting Trump might have been seeking a divorced companion. Emma described the situation as a form of ‘stalking’ in a light-hearted manner.
Apart from her Trump encounter, Emma has amusingly interacted with Prince William on several occasions. She once playfully requested a kiss from the future king during her damehood ceremony at Buckingham Palace in 2018. Praising William’s demeanor, Emma mentioned sending him a fan letter following the event and expressed admiration for his kindness and humility.
