Amazon’s Freevee Platform Shuts Down, Content Moves to Prime Video

Must Read

A popular streaming app that provided free access to a variety of content has officially shut down, affecting owners of Fire TV Sticks and other streaming devices starting today. Amazon’s Freevee platform, known for offering ad-supported content without subscription fees, has ceased operations. Previously, users could enjoy shows like Jury Duty, Alex Rider, Bosch: Legacy, and Hell’s Kitchen USA at no cost. However, as of September 1, the extensive Freevee content library has transitioned to Prime Video. Users are now required to switch to the Prime Video app and log in with their Amazon account to access the content. A pop-up message in the Freevee app has informed customers that Prime Video is the new exclusive destination for Freevee TV shows, movies, and Live TV. The Freevee app will remain accessible until August 2025, allowing users to continue watching their favorite Freevee Originals and a library of movies, shows, and live TV on Prime Video for free without a subscription. While there are no additional charges, users may encounter boxsets and movies that necessitate a Prime subscription or a one-time fee. This transition may be an attempt to entice Freevee users to subscribe to Prime Video or opt for movie rentals. Existing Prime Video account holders may find it more convenient to browse all Amazon content in one app without having to switch between Freevee and Prime Video.
