“Jockeys Injured in Dramatic Fall at York Races”

Must Read

The major Sunday gathering at York experienced a delay following a serious incident during the main race of the day. Two jockeys, namely Jim Crowley and Trevor Whelan, received on-track medical attention after a frightening fall disrupted the event. Both jockeys were conscious and later transported to a hospital in Leeds for further care.

Fortunately, the two horses involved in the mishap, Almeraq and Tiger Bay, seemed unharmed as they walked away from the incident at the Knavesmire. Almeraq, ridden by Crowley and the favorite for the 4.30 race known as the Sky Bet Starman Garrowby Stakes, stumbled after a potential contact with a competitor, leading to the fall around two furlongs from the race’s end. Trained by William Haggas, Almeraq brought down Tiger Bay, ridden by Whelan.

The ongoing Sky Bet Sunday Series event is currently being broadcast live on ITV4. Presenter Oli Bell updated ITV viewers by confirming that both jockeys were conscious and being transferred to Leeds General Infirmary. Bell mentioned that the jockeys were believed to have sustained leg injuries but were communicating with the medical team, offering a sense of relief to the audience.

The 5.00 race faced a delay of nearly half an hour before racing recommenced, allowing the event to proceed after the unfortunate incident.
