When preparing for air travel, there are unspoken guidelines that passengers are expected to follow to enhance the overall flight experience for everyone involved. Nevertheless, flight attendant Barbara ‘Barbie Bac’ Bacilieri, aged 29, has noticed that not all passengers adhere to these informal rules, causing challenges for her and potentially creating issues mid-flight.
The popular YouTube personality advises travelers to refrain from making supposed humorous comments, recounting an incident where a passenger joked about potentially being eaten if the plane crashed, alluding to the tragic story of the Society of the Snow, which inspired a movie. In this real-life tale, a Uruguayan rugby team’s aircraft crashed in a remote part of the Andes, leading them to resort to cannibalism to survive.
From a practical perspective, she suggests keeping high heels stowed away as they are uncomfortable to walk in at the airport and can pose a hazard during emergencies onboard. She elaborated that wearing heels during an evacuation would require taking them off to avoid damaging the evacuation slide.
Barbara also addressed the common rush passengers feel to board the plane, emphasizing that if already seated in the departure lounge, there is no need to queue up for boarding. She personally opts to wait until the end for everyone to board before calmly proceeding.
When it comes to maintaining hygiene while flying, she recommends avoiding lavatories with questionable puddles on the floor and being cautious about using aircraft blankets that have been used by numerous passengers before being laundered.
In general, she advises travelers to mind their own business, notify cabin crew if problems arise, dress appropriately for the journey, and maintain a positive attitude throughout their travels. These suggestions align with recent insights from another flight attendant, Jennie, known as @jeenie.weenie on social media, who revealed the coded language used by crew members to discreetly discuss passengers in their presence, shedding light on terms like ‘bob’ and ‘flip flop.’
Jennie explained in a video that phrases like ‘Tom Cruise’ are used as memory aids for serving beverages, with ‘Tom Cruise’ representing ‘T’ for tea and ‘C’ for coffee placement.
