The Princess of Wales is scheduled to undertake two official engagements this week, as confirmed by Kensington Palace. Kate, who made a surprise appearance with the Prince of Wales on the third anniversary of Queen Elizabeth II’s passing, will visit Sudbury Silk Mills in Sudbury, Suffolk, on Thursday, followed by a trip to Marina Mill in Cuxton, Kent.
These engagements coincide with the Duke of Sussex’s stay in the UK, expected to be his final day of charity visits. Kensington Palace stated that the princess’s visits aim to honor the exceptional skill, creativity, and craftsmanship of British textile manufacturers.
According to the Palace’s statement, “Her Royal Highness’s visit will showcase the rich heritage of the British textile industry and celebrate the fulfillment derived from working in the creative sector.” Kate has long been an advocate for the significance of the British textiles industry and its contribution to the UK’s cultural and creative landscape.
The announcement of Kate’s upcoming engagements follows her recent appearance with Prince William at the National Federation of Women’s Institute (WI) in Sunningdale, where they paid tribute to the late Queen Elizabeth on the anniversary of her passing. The Princess of Wales was not initially scheduled to join William at the event but decided last minute to show her support.
The WI, the largest women’s organization in the UK, serves as a platform for women to come together, participate in various activities, exchange experiences, and collaborate to drive positive change in their communities. The Queen had a special connection with the WI, being a member for 80 years and serving as President of the Sandringham WI from 2003 until her passing in 2022.
During their WI visit, William and Kate engaged with members from Berkshire and beyond, learning about the organization’s initiatives that provide women with opportunities to socialize, acquire new skills, and participate in community projects. They also heard from members about the importance of the Queen’s involvement in the WI and met individuals who had interacted with Her Majesty during her reign.
