Virgin Media is set to introduce a major upgrade to its TV platform, enhancing the search functionality to simplify content discovery. The telecoms company announced the upcoming changes in a blog post, highlighting the shift towards a more visually-oriented search experience.
Instead of the current text-based search results, users can expect a new display featuring vibrant images to aid in content navigation. Virgin emphasized that the update will apply to both the Stream box and Virgin TV 360, offering a more efficient and user-friendly search process.
The company stated, “We’re implementing beneficial enhancements to the search capabilities on our Stream box and Virgin TV 360.” By replacing text lists with image results, finding desired content will be quicker and more intuitive, whether users input search queries manually or utilize the voice search function.
The automatic update will be rolled out to compatible devices, including the 360 and Stream boxes, without requiring any additional action from users. According to Virgin, the transition will occur seamlessly without user intervention.
This enhancement aims to expedite content discovery for users, reducing the time spent browsing through channels. Virgin’s search feature enables users to search for specific shows, movies, genres, or actors, enhancing the overall viewing experience.
To initiate a search, users can simply press the magnifying glass button on the remote and input their query, with Smart Search typically requiring just a few letters for results. Alternatively, users can hold down the remote’s microphone button and verbally state the desired content, with search options appearing as they type or speak.
Virgin Media encourages users to explore various search queries, such as finding content related to specific shows or genres, including “John Wick,” “feel-good movies,” “reality TV,” or “live sports tonight,” by utilizing the search functionality on their remotes.
