“Legal Doubts on Madeleine Case Charges for Suspect”

Must Read

A legal representative for the primary suspect linked to the Madeleine McCann case expressed doubt about the possibility of their client facing charges related to the child’s disappearance. The lawyer emphasized the need for the suspect to have a chance at a normal life upon release from prison.

Convicted sex offender Christian Brueckner is scheduled for release from a German prison by September 17 after serving a seven-year sentence for assaulting an elderly American woman in Portugal in 2005. This incident occurred in the same area where Madeleine McCann was last seen in May 2007.

Despite concerns from Madeleine’s parents, Brueckner’s attorney, Friedrich Fuelscher, stated that he does not anticipate any charges in the Madeleine case, citing a lack of sufficient evidence after the passage of time. The prosecutor who named Brueckner as the prime suspect, Hans-Christian Wolters, remains optimistic about the possibility of charging Brueckner and has urged the public to provide any relevant information to the authorities.

Wolters disclosed ongoing efforts to trace a caller who contacted Brueckner on the night Madeleine disappeared. He emphasized that their investigation continues daily and highlighted the strong evidence suggesting Brueckner’s involvement in the case.

Regarding Brueckner’s impending release, Fuelscher expressed hopes that his client can lead a normal life post-incarceration, emphasizing the presumption of innocence and the right to a fresh start in society. Brueckner denies any involvement in Madeleine’s disappearance and plans to stay in Germany after his release.

One of Brueckner’s lawyers had previously mentioned the possibility of fleeing to a country without extradition agreements and undergoing surgery to alter his appearance. However, Fuelscher clarified that Brueckner intends to abide by the terms of his release in Germany unless he commits another offense.
