A tragic incident in Manchester resulted in the death of a woman after being struck by a falling tree branch.
The victim, identified as Jen Higgins, aged 49, lost her life when a tree branch unexpectedly fell on her while she was walking along Barlow Moor Road in West Didsbury, Manchester, on August 30. Despite the swift response of emergency services at around 7:15 pm, she could not be saved.
Jen Higgins, who served as the founder and joint managing director of the PR agency Carousel, had accumulated over two decades of experience in managing social media and PR campaigns. In an emotional statement released by her family, they expressed their devastation over the sudden and tragic loss.
“We are deeply saddened to confirm the passing of Jen Higgins in a tragic accident. She was a cherished wife, daughter, sister, daughter-in-law, and aunt, a lively and supportive friend to many, and a dynamic and highly esteemed figure within the business community of Manchester.
“During this difficult time, we request privacy as we come to terms with this profound shock. Further updates will be shared in due course.”
Known for her passion for live music and travel, Jen Higgins was also described in her company profile as a skilled multitasker with an extensive network and a keen interest in social media.
According to a witness, a staff member at the scene recounted the tragic event: “The tree suddenly snapped, and a large branch fell, striking a woman who was walking below.
“Although the weather was moderately windy, it was not excessively strong. Local residents, including some medical professionals, rushed to offer assistance. Subsequently, emergency services arrived, and the area was cordoned off by the police.
“The fallen branch was substantial, blocking the entire road. It consisted of two to three thick branches that fell simultaneously.”
In a statement, Greater Manchester Police stated: “On Saturday, August 30, at approximately 7:15 pm, reports were received of a woman being struck by a falling tree on Barlow Moor Road, Didsbury.
“Despite the efforts of emergency responders, the woman in her 40s was pronounced deceased at the scene. The incident is not being treated as suspicious.”
