Two Australian nurses lost their lives tragically when they were struck by a car while attempting to aid an injured kangaroo. Aseera Suwal and Sarala Khadka, both 30 years old and close colleagues at Alfred Hospital, were on their way to celebrate Aseera’s birthday when the fatal accident occurred on the Hume freeway in Melbourne, Australia.
The unfortunate incident took place after the two women stopped to assist a wounded kangaroo they had spotted on the roadside. Unfortunately, due to the darkness, a passing vehicle collided with them, resulting in the tragic outcome.
Local police reports revealed that the women had pulled over around 7:30 pm upon noticing the injured kangaroo, leading to another vehicle swerving to avoid a collision with their stationary car. The driver of the involved vehicle stayed at the scene, cooperating with authorities. One of the nurses was pronounced dead at the scene, while the other was airlifted to a nearby hospital but succumbed to her injuries.
Aseera and Sarala, who had been best friends for 14 years, had shared heartfelt messages on social media just before the accident. Sarala’s message to Aseera expressed their enduring friendship and support for each other over the years.
Both nurses had migrated from Nepal to Australia and had formed a strong bond. Their families are now making arrangements to repatriate their remains to Nepal.
Road Policing Assistant Commissioner Glenn Weir described the crash as a terrible tragedy and emphasized the dangers of being on the road during low visibility conditions. He warned about the risks associated with nighttime driving, especially in inclement weather.
The community mourns the loss of these dedicated nurses, highlighting the importance of road safety and vigilance while driving, especially in challenging weather conditions.
