A woman believed to be at the center of a hit-and-run theory connected to the disappearance of British toddler Madeleine McCann reportedly became upset during interactions with the police. The German individual, who was romantically involved with a deceased British man, faced two searches of her residence in Praia de Luz as authorities probed whether Madeleine had been struck by a vehicle on the night she went missing. Reports indicate she reacted angrily when requested to clear out her freezer.
In past investigations conducted by Portuguese and British authorities seven years ago, the focus was on a scenario suggesting that three-year-old Madeleine may have awoken, left her family’s apartment through an unlocked patio door, and been involved in a hit-and-run incident.
Recent coverage by the Mirror highlighted a new theory regarding Madeleine’s disappearance revealed in the Portuguese newspaper Correio da Manha. The report mentioned that German prosecutors declined to investigate a couple suspected of hitting Madeleine in a drink-driving incident, following a tip from the British man’s sister to Portuguese law enforcement.
The German woman, now located, expressed surprise at being under suspicion and claimed she was working at a beachside restaurant in Praia da Luz during the time Madeleine was found missing from her bed. According to her account, her British partner, a chef at the Ocean Club who served dinner to the McCann family and friends, was with her at home when she returned after Madeleine’s disappearance.
She disclosed that her residence, like many others in the area, was searched by Portuguese police in the days following Madeleine’s vanishing. The sister of the unnamed British man previously informed authorities in 2018, sparking further inquiries into the case.
Regarding the investigations, it was reported that German prosecutors were requested to approve covert operations to gather information from the woman, but this was denied by the courts. The focus of the investigation was then directed towards suspect Christian Brueckner, disregarding other potential leads.
The German woman mentioned that more than a decade later, she was contacted by German authorities inquiring if she was familiar with Christian B and had seen him near the McCanns’ apartment. Maddie’s mother, Kate, has consistently maintained disbelief in the theory that her daughter left the apartment unassisted, as detailed in her book “Madeleine.” She questioned the plausibility of a three-year-old child executing the complex actions required for such an event.
