“Angela Rayner Resigns Over Stamp Duty Error”

Must Read

The Prime Minister has expressed deep admiration for Angela Rayner following her resignation, which she described as “very sad.” Rayner stepped down from her government position, taking full responsibility for an error related to stamp duty, which led to her departure as Deputy Prime Minister and Housing Secretary. She acknowledged the oversight regarding underpaid tax on a property purchase in Hove, Sussex, stating it was unintentional but fell short of high standards.

In a personal handwritten letter, Keir Starmer, the Labour Party leader, commended Rayner for her contributions despite the circumstances of her exit, calling it the right decision. Rayner, who also resigned as the Labour party’s deputy leader, self-reported the issue to the independent standards advisor, Sir Laurie Magnus, who recognized her integrity and dedication to public service but found a breach of the ministerial code in her tax affairs.

Starmer’s letter to Rayner conveyed sadness over her departure from the government and praised her for her significant achievements in politics and public service. He highlighted her work in building homes and advocating for fairness in employment rights, expressing respect and admiration for her commitment. Despite her exit from the government, Starmer emphasized Rayner’s continued importance within the party and her ongoing advocacy for causes she deeply cares about.
