Keir Starmer reflects on the significance of the Battle of Britain anniversary, highlighting the shared values that unite us.
In honor of the 85th anniversary of the WWII victory, the Prime Minister will participate in a commemorative event at Westminster Abbey this Sunday.
Following the ceremony, he will witness the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight air display, featuring iconic aircraft such as the Avro Lancaster heavy bomber, Supermarine Spitfire, and Hawker Hurricane.
Expressing his respect for the Battle of Britain heroes, Mr. Starmer emphasized their bravery in defending the nation’s skies, freedoms, and future against overwhelming odds.
He underscored that beyond its historical importance, the Battle of Britain symbolizes the core values that bind the country together, including duty, sacrifice, and the strength found in unity.
Acknowledging the enduring legacy of these heroes in securing the peace we enjoy today, he stressed the collective responsibility to uphold the freedoms they fought for, concluding with a vow to always remember their sacrifices.
During the event, the Prime Minister will engage with various dignitaries, including the Dean of Westminster, Squadron Leader Charlie Warden, His Majesty’s Lord Lieutenant of Greater London, and the Chief of the Air Staff.
The presence of Marshal of the Royal Air Force, The Lord Craig, who holds the distinction of being the sole living officer in the British Armed Forces to have held a five-star rank during active duty, will also be notable.
