Aldi has integrated InPost Lockers into over 500 of its locations in the United Kingdom. These lockers enable customers to conveniently retrieve and return online purchases while completing their routine grocery shopping. According to Aldi, the InPost lockers have been implemented in 536 stores throughout England, Scotland, and Wales.
The retailer intends to expand the locker system to more stores in the upcoming months, with a target of having at least 600 stores equipped with lockers by the year-end. With over 1,050 stores, Aldi aims to enhance convenience and efficiency for its shoppers by providing easy access to parcel services alongside their regular shopping trips.
Jonathan Neale, the Managing Director of National Real Estate at Aldi UK, emphasized the importance of streamlining the shopping experience for customers. The supermarket’s initiative to introduce InPost lockers aligns with their goal of saving customers time and money, facilitating parcel pickups and returns during their grocery visits.
Neil Kuschel, CEO at InPost UK, highlighted the collaboration with Aldi as a joint effort to improve the everyday shopping experience for UK customers. By offering a more convenient and sustainable solution for managing parcels, the partnership aims to simplify the process of collection and returns for shoppers.
In a recent development, Aldi disclosed a revised list of preferred locations across the UK for potential new store openings. Each identified site should be capable of accommodating a 20,000 sq ft store with adequate parking spaces, ideally situated near main roads for accessibility and visibility.
Moreover, Aldi is seeking sites suitable for its Aldi Local store format in Central London zones one and two, typically requiring a minimum trading space of 5,000 sq ft along with an additional 3,000 sq ft of ancillary space. Interested parties with sites meeting Aldi’s criteria are encouraged to contact realestateacquisitions@aldi.co.uk as part of the company’s £650 million investment plan for this year, with a long-term objective of reaching 1,500 stores in the UK.
Additionally, Aldi has raised the hourly rates for store assistants earlier this year, with minimum rates set at £12.75 and £14.05 within the M25 area. The company has committed to further pay increases for store colleagues starting September 2025, elevating minimum hourly rates to £12.85 nationwide and £14.16 within the M25 region.
