“Amazon Discontinues Fire TV Blaster, Offers Replacement Deals”

Must Read

Amazon has issued a notice to certain Fire TV and Echo users, confirming the discontinuation of one of its smart devices. The product in question, Fire TV Blaster, will cease functioning “in the coming weeks.” Initially designed to provide hands-free voice controls for home theater setups, the Blaster could operate in conjunction with a Fire TV Stick or smart speaker.

Upon installation, the Fire TV Blaster allowed users to manage soundbars, adjust volume, and switch channels on set-top boxes using Alexa voice commands. The device was removed from sale a year ago due to complex setup issues and replaced by the more user-friendly Fire TV Cube, which offered similar functionalities.

Amazon stated that the Blaster fulfilled its purpose during a transitional phase in smart home technology. However, advancements in technology and the evolution of other Fire TV products rendered the standalone IR blaster obsolete. Owners of the Blaster have been informed that the device will permanently cease operations, with U.S. users offered the option to exchange it for a discounted Fire TV Cube.

In the UK, Blaster owners will receive a £34.99 gift card automatically credited to their accounts. Amazon is also facilitating the free recycling of old Fire TV Blasters, with users only needing to print a shipping label and return the device.

A notification email sent to customers who purchased a Fire TV Blaster highlighted the impending discontinuation and cessation of support for the device. Amazon is providing incentives such as discounts on the Fire TV Cube and gift cards, along with the offer to recycle old Blasters free of charge.
