Amy Schumer recently shared on Instagram that she underwent a secret surgery due to a previous injury. The Hollywood star, aged 44, posted a photo of herself using a walking aid and explained to her followers that she had a laminectomy to address ongoing pain from an old surfing injury affecting her L5 vertebra.
Before her surgery, Amy disclosed that she had fallen off a horse about a week earlier while with her son during a lesson. Despite the fall, she bravely got back on the horse to send a message to herself and others.
The laminectomy procedure Amy underwent involved the removal of part of a spinal bone known as the lamina, which covers the spinal canal. This surgery aims to alleviate pressure on the spinal cord or nerves, as explained by the Mayo Clinic.
Amy, who had previously been diagnosed with Cushing’s Syndrome, shared that online criticism about her appearance led her to seek medical advice. She discovered that her steroid injections for scars post-pregnancy had triggered the condition, emphasizing the importance of managing steroid use for treating Cushing’s.
The treatment for Cushing’s varies depending on the cause, with reducing steroid intake being a common approach. Amy highlighted how she managed to resolve her excess cortisol levels as they naturally regulated in her system.
