Asda is gearing up to launch around 20 new convenience stores later this year. The initial Asda Express store will debut in Castleford in early October, with subsequent openings in various locations following shortly. These stores will offer a selection of up to 3,000 branded and own-label products, catering to essential needs like milk and bread.
The upcoming stores are strategically placed in urban areas, residential neighborhoods, and transport hubs. This expansion comes after Asda acquired 469 convenience store and fuel sites from the Co-op and EG Group. Asda’s first Express store was introduced in 2022.
David Lepley, Chief Supply Chain Officer at Asda, expressed excitement about the upcoming Express rollout, emphasizing the brand’s commitment to providing excellent value to more communities nationwide. The company has rapidly grown its convenience store presence, reaching nearly 500 stores by the year’s end.
In related news, Asda recently revealed plans to revamp 180 in-store cafes as part of a substantial £180 million investment. The enhancements will include digital ordering options, table service, and a refreshed menu featuring new dishes like smashed avocado on toast, katsu chicken curry, salad bowls, wraps, nachos, loaded fries, and a range of pizzas.
Customers will also have access to new beverages such as flavored iced coffees and a variety of cakes. Traditional favorites like full English breakfast and fish and chips will still be available. The café refurbishment, managed by Compass Group, is scheduled for completion by the end of October, encompassing all 205 Asda cafes. Additionally, the popular Kids Eat for £1 promotion will continue to be offered.
Asda aims to enhance customer experiences by providing a diverse menu and modernized cafe settings, reflecting its ongoing commitment to meeting the evolving needs of consumers.
