Australian Racer Accused in Schumacher Residence Assault

Must Read

Joey Mawson has been identified as the individual accused of sexually assaulting a nurse at Michael Schumacher’s residence. Mawson, a 29-year-old Australian racer, allegedly assaulted the woman while she was unconscious after a party at Schumacher’s home in Gland, Switzerland.

Despite the allegations, Mawson refutes the claims, stating that their relationship was consensual and close. He also mentioned a previous kiss shared at a nightclub in Geneva.

Hailing from Sydney, Australia, Mawson was once seen as a rising star in Formula 1 before returning to race in Australia due to a decline in form. He had a friendship with Schumacher’s son, Mick, and competed against notable figures like Lando Norris from McLaren and George Russell from Mercedes.

A trial was set for this week, with the Public Prosecutor’s Office of the District of La Cote preparing an indictment for the case. However, Mawson, a two-time Australian S5000 champion now barred from racing due to a doping violation, failed to appear in court on Wednesday.

Despite his absence, the trial commenced but was postponed to a later date, as reported by The Sun. The Schumacher family is not implicated in the case.

The indictment from the Public Prosecutor’s Office accuses Mawson of assaulting the nurse while she was unconscious after consuming vodka cocktails. The nurse, who remains unnamed, was providing care for Schumacher, who requires ongoing assistance following a tragic skiing accident in 2013.

According to court documents, the incident occurred on November 23, 2019, while Mawson was at Schumacher’s residence. Allegedly, after playing pool with other staff members, Mawson returned to the nurse’s room and committed the assault. The nurse reported the incident over two years later, in January 2022.
