“Autumn Budget Preview: Tax Hikes Loom as Cold Weather Payment Begins”

Must Read

Rachel Reeves is scheduled to present the Autumn Budget next month, amidst increasing speculation that new tax hikes may be announced by the Chancellor.

Simultaneously, a winter program offering £25 payments during cold spells will be initiated, and Ofgem is expected to reveal whether energy costs will surge this winter.

Additionally, the Office for National Statistics will provide the latest inflation update, while the Bank of England will convene to determine a potential interest rate cut.

The Cold Weather Payment initiative, providing £25 to residents in England and Wales during prolonged sub-zero temperatures, will commence on November 1.

To qualify for the payment, households must be recipients of certain DWP benefits such as Pension Credit, Income Support, Job Seekers Allowance, or Universal Credit.

In Scotland, the Cold Weather Payments have been replaced by the Winter Heating Payment worth £59.75.

The Bank of England is set to announce its next interest rate decision on November 6, with the current base rate standing at 4%, maintained since the September 2025 meeting.

Inflation data for the 12 months up to October 2025 will be released by the Office for National Statistics on November 19, with the current inflation rate at 3.8%, exceeding the Bank of England’s 2% target.

Ofgem will disclose the new energy price cap by November 25, impacting household bills from January 1 to March 31, with the current average annual cap set at £1,755 for dual fuel households paying by direct debit.

Ahead of Rachel Reeves’ Autumn Budget on November 26, reports suggest a potential Income Tax rise and adjustments to cash ISA limits and Inheritance Tax gifting rules.

Black Friday is scheduled for November 28, followed by Cyber Monday on December 1, prompting the advice to compare prices online to ensure the best deals.

Utilize platforms like Price Spy, Idealo, and CamelCamelCamel to track prices across various retailers for informed purchasing decisions.
