A body has been recovered nearly a day after a plane crashed in a national park. The incident occurred at Budawang National Park in Australia on September 18. Emergency services responded to reports of an activated Emergency Location Transmitter on the aircraft. Following concerns of a missing or injured person, a multi-agency search was initiated.
It took nearly 24 hours for search and rescue teams to reach the remote crash site and retrieve the body, believed to be a 60-year-old man. The New South Wales Police released a statement confirming the recovery operation.
The recreational aircraft, with a single occupant, departed Bankstown and was returning when it crashed. Various agencies, including the Australian Maritime Safety Authority and emergency services, participated in the search. The crash site was located the next day due to challenging terrain and weather conditions.
The body was found on the site and recovery efforts were carried out with the help of PolAir and Police Rescue. The victim is yet to be formally identified. The Australian Transport Bureau will investigate the cause of the crash.
