“British Gas Energy Trust Offers £1,700 Assistance to Struggling Households”

Must Read

Struggling households have the opportunity to receive up to £1,700 in energy assistance from British Gas, even if they are not customers. The British Gas Energy Trust has launched its Individual and Families Fund for households with energy debt ranging from £50 to £1,700 for pre-payment customers and £250 to £1,700 for credit customers.

To qualify, households must have a total income under £18,723 or reside with someone receiving disability benefits, Carers Allowance, or be in a household with three or more children. Applicants are advised to seek guidance from free money advice charities like Citizens Advice before applying for the fund.

If applicants have been declined assistance by their current energy supplier or received a grant from British Gas Energy Trust in the past two years, they are not eligible. Jessica Taplin, the British Gas Energy Trust boss, expressed the importance of the fund in helping households cope with energy costs and financial challenges, ensuring warmth and safety for families.

Meanwhile, Ofgem’s price cap for energy bills has increased from £1,720 to £1,755 for typical dual fuel households paying by direct debit, effective until December 31. The cap applies to those on standard variable rate tariffs and does not limit the total energy bill based on usage. Ofgem sets the cap on gas and electricity units and fixed standing charges, reflecting average annual consumption levels.
