Chrome users are urged to promptly reboot their browsers after Google confirmed a crucial security update. The update addresses a significant security flaw within Google’s web browsing software. This flaw has been classified as “zero-day,” indicating that hackers are already exploiting it. Google has acknowledged the existence of an exploit for CVE-2025-6554 in the wild.
The security vulnerability, initially discovered by Clément Lecigne of Google’s Threat Analysis Group, exposes Chrome to potential attacks like arbitrary code execution. To ensure protection, users should verify they are running the correct Chrome version. Checking the installed version under “About Chrome” in the browser menu reveals the protection status. Users need version 138.0.7204.96/.97 for Windows, 138.0.7204.92/.93 for Mac, and 138.0.7204.92 for Linux to safeguard against the latest issue.
If users have an outdated version, an immediate restart is recommended. Once the reboot is complete, users should not encounter further issues. Google assures that the latest version will be rolled out to all browsers in the upcoming days/weeks.
