eBay Slashes Buyer Fees, Introduces Faster Payments

Must Read

eBay has implemented a significant change to its fee structure, resulting in reduced costs for buyers. The platform has slashed its Buyer Protection fee from 75p to 10p.

Furthermore, there have been adjustments to the fee percentages buyers will pay based on the item price, now utilizing a tiered system. Previously, buyers paid 4% on items up to £300 and 2% on any amount between £300 and £4,000.

Under the new structure, eBay users will now pay 7% on items up to £20, 4% on amounts between £20 and £300, and 2% on portions between £300 and £4,000. No fee applies to items exceeding £4,000.

Previously, a £10 item incurred charges of £1.15, which has now been reduced to 80p. Similarly, an item sold for £100 would have incurred £4.75 in fees, but this has been decreased to £4.70.

The revised fees are applicable to all listings except for cars, motorcycles, vehicles, classified ads, and property. In instances where multiple units of the same item are purchased, the 10p flat fee is only charged once.

eBay is also introducing faster payment processing for select sellers starting August 6. Sellers who have completed at least ten sales totaling £150 or more in the past five days, with a maximum of two unresolved cases in the previous 12 months, will receive their sales proceeds within 24 hours of a sale.

Previously, sellers had to wait two days after delivery confirmation to access their funds. Last year, eBay eliminated selling fees, enabling sellers to retain more of their earnings without paying final value fees, regulatory operating fees, or insertion fees.

While selling fees remain for car, motorcycle, and vehicle listings, they were removed for all fashion items earlier. This change follows the introduction of eBay’s default postage method, “Simple Delivery.”

With “Simple Delivery,” eBay calculates postage costs based on parcel size. Upon sale, sellers must either drop off the item at a carrier location or arrange a home delivery. Sellers receive a QR code or label from eBay for posting the item. Exceptions to “Simple Delivery” include low-priced items, bulky items, and those designated for local pickup.
