Must Read

An elderly champion horse rider passed away after being accidentally stepped on by one of her cherished horses, as confirmed by an official inquiry. Margaret Davies, also known as Maggie, succumbed to her injuries at a hospital following an incident involving her thoroughbred horse, Benny, while leading him to the paddock on August 8.

The 80-year-old rider was knocked over and trampled by the horse after it got startled and veered off course. Despite being rushed to Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital with sternum and clavicle injuries, she developed pneumonia during treatment and ultimately passed away on August 24.

Throughout her adult life, Mrs. Davies dedicated herself to equestrian activities, excelling in competitions, horse breeding, and training. Despite previous injuries from falls, she remained resolute in pursuing her passion for horses. Her doctor’s statement revealed her unwavering commitment to riding, even when advised to consider stopping.

At the time of her demise, Mrs. Davies had not ridden for several months but still cared for two horses. Following the inquiry, her husband, Peter Davies, fondly remembered her deep connection with animals and nature, describing her as a cherished figure in the equestrian community.

Dr. Davies, a retired eye surgeon, highlighted his wife’s agility and lifelong dedication to horses, acknowledging that her age might have played a role in the tragic accident. The inquiry, led by area coroner Johanna Thompson, determined that Mrs. Davies’ death was accidental, caused by severe chest injuries sustained from the horse incident.

Being the president of Carousel Riding Club, Mrs. Davies was a beloved member of the equestrian community, known for her expertise in dressage and her enduring support for the club. A tribute on the club’s website honored her memory and contributions, emphasizing her everlasting presence in their hearts.
