An elderly man was rescued by a fishing boat after falling 40 feet from a cliff at Loch Lomond in Scotland. The man, aged 87, sustained serious injuries but was saved thanks to the quick response of local fishermen who heard his calls for help.
Following the incident near Rob Roy’s Cave, a rescue team promptly arrived at the scene, having been alerted about the man’s fall three hours earlier. The fishing boat that heard his cries contacted the police, who then called in the Loch Lomond Rescue Boat (LLRB).
Upon arrival, the LLRB volunteers provided immediate care to the injured man, administering pain relief and immobilizing him to safeguard his spine and pelvis due to the extent of his injuries. The Scottish Ambulance Service trauma team also played a crucial role in the rescue operation.
The pensioner was transferred via lifeboat to Inveruglas power station, where he was airlifted to a hospital for further medical attention. Earlier that evening, the LLRB team assisted a 19-year-old German female walker who had injured her ankle on the West Highland Way near Ivow Island on Loch Lomond’s east side.
After assessing and treating the young walker, she was transferred to Inveruglas and handed over to the Scottish Ambulance Service for continued care. The LLRB spokesperson highlighted the busy evening for the rescue team and commended the actions of the individuals involved in the rescue efforts.
