A driver, described by witnesses as speeding recklessly, leading to a fatal crash that claimed the life of a passenger, has been sentenced for dangerous driving. Ryan Evans, aged 27, tragically lost his life when the car he was in, driven by Arran Donnelly, crashed into a wall in Stockport, Greater Manchester. Donnelly, now 28, was reportedly seen using nitrous oxide just before the deadly incident. The car, carrying four friends on their way to a pub, lost control, mounted the kerb, and collided with a wall, resulting in the death of Mr. Evans. Donnelly and two other passengers sustained injuries in the crash.
Witnesses reported that Donnelly was driving at speeds significantly higher than the limit, displaying aggressive acceleration through a residential area. The court was informed that Donnelly’s erratic driving behavior was likely the primary cause of the crash. Despite clear visibility and no road defects, the crash occurred due to driver error.
Evidence presented in court included a video on Mr. Evans’ phone showing Donnelly with a nitrous oxide balloon shortly before the crash. CCTV footage captured the speeding Audi before the collision, where the vehicle spun and crashed into a wall. Witnesses at the scene described the aftermath, with one passenger limping and another looking dazed, while bystanders attempted to assist Mr. Evans.
During the sentencing, the court considered Donnelly’s lack of prior convictions, clean driving record, and recent fatherhood. Donnelly expressed remorse for the pain he caused the victim’s family. He received a sentence of six years and nine months for causing death by dangerous driving, along with a driving ban.
