“Gen Z Loneliness on the Rise: 37% Report Regular Isolation”

Must Read

A recent study has revealed that Gen Z is more prone to feelings of loneliness compared to other generations. The study, which surveyed 2,000 adults, found that 37% of Gen Z individuals often experience loneliness, while only 15% of Gen X and 11% of Boomers feel the same way.

The research showed that a significant number of Gen Z feel they lack regular human interaction, with respondents spending an average of five-and-a-half hours per day on screens. Additionally, 45% believe they engage more with people digitally than in person, leading one-third to admit they have gone days without speaking to anyone.

More than 40% of respondents feel lonelier now than they did five years ago, and 78% perceive loneliness as a growing societal issue. The research, conducted in partnership with McVitie’s, Mind, and A Mug of Life, aims to raise awareness about loneliness and promote more meaningful conversations in society.

Content creator Will Shears emphasized the importance of meaningful connections beyond digital interactions, citing the positive impact simple gestures like sharing tea and a chat can have on mental health. Andrew Berrie from Mind highlighted the link between loneliness and mental health issues, emphasizing the role of conversations in reducing feelings of isolation and stress.

Sarah Webster, a mental health ambassador at McVitie’s, encouraged people to engage in conversations over a cup of tea and biscuits as a way to connect with others and combat loneliness. The initiative aims to foster more interpersonal interactions and support networks in the community.
