Hampton University announced the cancellation of all campus activities and classes for two days, encouraging remote meetings and events. HBCUs, established before the enactment of the Civil Rights Act in 1964, were created to provide education to African Americans facing discrimination in higher education.
These incidents occurred following the tragic assassination of right-wing figure Charlie Kirk, who was fatally shot in Utah. The event was witnessed by thousands, and videos of the shooting circulated widely online, sparking reactions from various political figures advocating against political violence.
Notably, political violence in the US has been prevalent, with recent incidents including the deaths of two Democratic Minnesota congressmen and assassination attempts on former President Donald Trump. The FBI has released images of a suspect wanted in Kirk’s killing and offered a substantial reward for any information leading to the apprehension of the individual.
