Luke Littler is in a prime position to ascend to the top of the PDC World Rankings this weekend. The highly anticipated Machineseeker European Championship kicks off in Dortmund on Thursday night, featuring the top 32 players from the 2025 European Tour rankings vying for a share of the £600,000 prize pool.
Renowned darts players such as Michael van Gerwen, Peter Wright, and Gerwyn Price will start the first round of the PDC Premier Event, followed by Littler, Luke Humphries, and Nathan Aspinall taking the stage on Friday evening. The competition will progress through rounds, culminating in the quarter-finals, semi-finals, and final on Sunday.
The champion of the Machineseeker European Championship will claim £120,000, with the runner-up receiving £60,000. Semifinalists will pocket £40,000 each, while quarter-finalists will take home £25,000.
With substantial cash prizes at stake, Littler has a golden opportunity to surpass Humphries and clinch the top spot. The margin between ‘The Nuke’ and ‘Cool Hand Luke’, the current world number one, is narrow. To dethrone Humphries, Littler must bridge the £52,500 earnings gap between them.
Should Humphries face an early defeat to Krzysztof Ratajski in the first round, a semi-final finish for Littler could create a £5,000 difference, edging him closer to the top position. However, achieving this feat won’t be a walk in the park.
Littler, an 18-year-old prodigy, has encountered challenges with German crowds in the past. Despite facing hostility during a previous event in Berlin, he remains focused on his goals. Looking ahead to the PDC World Darts Championship, Littler envisions a path to becoming the world’s best.
In a recent statement to the press, Littler expressed determination, stating, “This is my moment, and I must persevere. I won’t consider myself the best until I reach that world number one spot. Whoever holds that position is the true champion.”
“As I’m only £70,000 behind Luke, and he must defend his earnings from various tournaments, including the Grand Prix and Players Championships, I see a chance to claim the top spot before the World Championship. I need to maintain my focus and keep pushing Luke to the limit.”
