Christian Brueckner, the key suspect in the Madeleine McCann case, marked his release from prison with a meal of chicken nuggets. The convicted sex offender was freed after serving a seven-year sentence for rape in Germany. This offense occurred in Praia Da Luz, the same location where Madeleine disappeared two years later. Brueckner left Sehnde jail discreetly in his lawyer’s car, concealing his face.
Shortly after his release, Brueckner was seen at a McDonald’s near Hamburg, sporting an ankle monitor. Clad in a burgundy shirt and beige chinos, he casually smoked outside the restaurant before indulging in a burger and chicken nuggets with sweet and sour sauce.
Despite being identified as the prime suspect in Madeleine’s disappearance in June 2020, Brueckner has not been formally charged. However, strict conditions were imposed on his release, including wearing the ankle monitor for five years. He must also maintain regular contact with a probation officer and notify authorities of any change in his whereabouts.
Brueckner could face prison or fines if he violates these conditions. Police took extensive measures to safeguard his release, with a significant police presence at the prison. His lawyer was escorted in and out of the facility, with Brueckner under close surveillance.
Brueckner is scheduled to appear in court next month for an offense involving a prison officer. While he denies involvement in Madeleine’s disappearance, investigations are ongoing. Brueckner was previously cleared of sex crime allegations in Portugal, pending an appeal.
Living on the outskirts of Praia da Luz when Madeleine vanished, Brueckner’s whereabouts after release remain undisclosed. German authorities conducted searches in Portugal recently, focusing on uncovering potential evidence related to the case.
