A man finally sought medical help for a massive tumor in his neck after ignoring it for nearly 20 years, believing it would disappear on its own. Doctors at Kirov Regional Clinical Hospital in Russia were surprised when the 65-year-old patient revealed he had been using ointments instead of seeing a doctor for the head-sized growth. The tumor, diagnosed as a lipoma, had been weighing down his neck for 16 years.
A lipoma is a benign, fatty lump that typically grows between the skin and muscle tissue, causing no pain or harm if treated promptly. Despite the common occurrence of lipomas on various body parts, this man’s case was extreme due to the prolonged neglect of medical intervention.
The lead surgeon at the hospital emphasized the importance of timely treatment for lipomas, stating that they do not disappear on their own. Surgical removal is the only effective treatment, particularly for large growths like the one the man had. The surgery, which involved precise removal of multiple smaller tumors around blood vessels and nerves, was successful, and the man is now recovering.
In a separate incident, a 30-year-old man had a five-inch ‘devil’s horn’ removed from the back of his head after enduring years of agony. The unique growth was surgically excised, and the patient experienced relief and newfound freedom post-surgery. Another medical professional, a vascular surgeon in Russia, expressed astonishment at performing such a rare operation for the first time in his long career.
