In a bid to provide TV viewers with more cost-effective options, Freely introduced a service in 2024 that enables access to live channels through a broadband connection. Initially, the service was limited to a few new TV models, but it has expanded in the last 18 months to include brands like Hisense, Toshiba, and Sharp. Until recently, individuals interested in accessing live and on-demand content through Freely had to purchase a new TV.
Fortunately, Manhattan’s technology team has unveiled a new set-top box called Aero 4K, powered by Freely, that can now bring this service to existing TVs in households. The Aero 4K device offers over 60 live channels and on-demand content at no cost, without the need for a costly subscription.
Moreover, the Aero 4K box comes with features like voice search, viewing recommendations, a comprehensive TV guide, and the ability to pause live content. Users who have subscriptions to platforms like Disney+ and Netflix can also access these apps through the device.
Priced at £69.99, the Aero 4K has gained popularity. Currys is the first UK store to offer the Manhattan Aero 4K, which is currently out of stock due to high demand. However, the retailer has assured that the device will be restocked soon.
Interested buyers can sign up on the Currys website to receive alerts when the Aero 4K is available again. Additionally, other retailers, including Amazon and John Lewis, are expected to start selling the device soon.
Once back in stock, the Aero 4K will compete with devices like Virgin’s Stream box and Sky Stream, all of which eliminate the need for aerials or dishes by streaming shows, sports, and movies over the internet.
Transitioning to streaming services offers advantages such as easy installation without requiring a technician and regular updates over the air. Freely has reported over a million users, indicating a growing trend of viewers shifting from traditional TV methods to streaming platforms.
