Meghan is once again in the spotlight after a series of notable public appearances in recent weeks.
The Duchess, who unveiled a lifestyle brand this year, engaged in a comprehensive conversation about her business endeavors, shedding light on her intricate relationship with social media.
Prior to meeting her spouse, Meghan actively maintained a presence on social media from its inception. As an actress, she astutely utilized her public image to create opportunities, even during the early stages of platforms like Instagram.
Utilizing her online following, she successfully launched a lifestyle blog named The Tig, covering a wide array of topics from wellness to travel, which garnered her a substantial fan base. However, upon becoming serious with Prince Harry, she deactivated all her accounts, keeping a minimal online presence until recently.
Upon reviving her Instagram account last New Year, she swiftly accumulated a large following and subsequently announced her new lifestyle show, “With Love, Meghan,” on Netflix, along with her merchandise brand, As Ever.
During a candid discussion at the Fortune Most Powerful Women Summit 2025, Meghan revealed to Alyson Shontell, Editor-in-Chief and Chief Content Officer for Fortune, her nuanced views on social media, elucidating her decision to disable comments on her account.
“There are certain measures I’ve taken for self-preservation, which also extend to my brand and its supportive followers,” Meghan explained. “Despite concerns about detractors, the overwhelming support for me and my brand is what I value most. Hence, to safeguard not only myself and my team but also our supporters, I have disabled the comment section.”
Although Meghan acknowledged the necessity of protecting herself from online negativity, she admitted that this move posed a challenge for her fledgling company, requiring the establishment of a sense of community with fans and customers.
“This challenge prompted me and my social media team to find innovative ways to interact with users while maintaining authenticity,” Meghan elaborated.
“We devised creative methods to engage the community, showing them that their feedback is seen and appreciated. It’s about crafting a strategy that aligns with your values while authentically growing the business,” she added.
